Q1: What type of battery is needed for stop-start?
A: There are two types of start-stop batteries: AGM and EFB. Cars with entry-level start-stop systems that are tiny and mid-range can benefit from enhanced flooded batteries (EFB). Other names for them include Enhanced Cycling Mat (ECM) batteries and Advanced Flooded Batteries (AFB).
Q2: What is the start-stop technology in cars?
A: The start-stop system recognizes when the vehicle is stationary and uses sensors to determine a number of other aspects of the vehicle's operating mode. The start-stop mechanism cuts the engine when the driver stops at a traffic light and shifts the gearbox to neutral.
Q3: What is the start-stop system on a car battery?
A: Electrical consumers like lights, wipers, radios, and displays still require power when the car is parked at traffic signals and the engine is off. Continuous charging and discharging increase the load.
Q4: Does auto start-stop have its own battery?
A: Absorbent Glass Matt (AGM) batteries are used in Stop/Start systems because of the increasing demands. Because of the way they are made, AGM batteries require almost little maintenance.
Q5: Can I put a normal battery on a stop-start car?
A: The tremendous demands that arise from discharge during the stop phases are too much for typical automobile batteries to handle. When a regular battery is used in place of an AGM or EFB, the battery deteriorates quickly and eventually breaks down.
Q6: What's the lifespan of a stop-start battery?
A: The typical lifespan of this kind of battery is three to five years. For powerful cars with stop/start systems, AGM batteries are perfect. Generally speaking, they last longer than EFB batteries. The EFB battery is intended for smaller engines and simpler stop/start electric systems.
